Touring Town are four-some
14 September 2007
A FABULOUS foursome brought the curtain down on a successful season for Lowestoft Town Cricket Club.
A squad of 14 players descended on Southend last week for the club's end of season tour - and after all three league teams had secured promotion, there was more sweet-tasting success with four successive victories against sides across Essex.
Organised by club captain Peter Sims, tour victories over Belhaus, Rankins, Old Southendians and Southend on Sea concluded a fine campaign.
And toasting a top season, there was more joy for skipper Nathan Garrod as he hit a chanceless hundred to secure the closest of tour wins on the second day at Rankins.
The previous day, New Zealander Craig Beecroft turned up at the party in fine style - with a magnificent 147 runs as he despatched the ball to all corners of the picturesque Belhaus ground.
Karl Storey, despite an injured hand, hit an unbeaten 50 on day three with Lawrence De Coteau (52) and Adam Boggis (42) weighing in with valuable runs against Old Southendians.
Teenager Dom Smith then took his first ever five-wicket haul on the final day, before Ryan De Coteau (122no) and Ryan Moore (104no) sealed a stunning nine wicket win as the Town tourists triumphed with over ten overs to spare.
A magnificent partnership of well over 200 closed proceedings in style on what has been a memorable season for the club.
