EXCITING plans to regenerate Lowestoft and Yarmouth were given a seal of approval by a Government minister.

Minister of State for Housing Yvette Cooper was speaking at a presentation being held at the House of Commons by 1st East, the urban regeneration company for the two towns.

“The Government is very keen to support such an exciting initiative taking place in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

“I am particularly pleased to see that affordable housing is one of the regeneration scheme's priorities and would like to wish everyone involved the very best of luck,” said Ms Cooper.

The event was hosted by Waveney MP Bob Blizzard and Great Yarmouth MP Tony Wright and attracted leading developers, investors and politicians from all over the country.

“I am delighted to see so many people here. What is pleasing is that many people are learning about the development opportunities in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth for the first time,” said Mr Blizzard.

Both MPs were keen to stress that the regeneration project was a joint initiative between the two towns with everyone working together with the full support of Suffolk and Norfolk county councils, Waveney District Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The development plan being put forward by 1st East covers 15 years and is a mix of immediate opportunities for commercial and residential projects as well as some longer term infrastructure projects.
