A charity has pledged to save more lives this summer by extending the operation hours from its Norwich base.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance’s Anglia One helicopter currently operates between 7am and 5pm every day. However, from tomorrow, the team will start 12 hour shifts from 7am to 7pm seven days a week.

The announcement comes after Anglia Two, based at Cambridge, started night flying operations across the East of England last year.

The increase in activity comes as the air ambulance faces growing demand.

Melanie Nightingale, the charity’s acting chief operating officer said: ‘We are enormously pleased to be able to offer this extended service. Our Norwich team were keen to support their Anglia Two and EEAST colleagues during the summer months when there is often an increased need for our services. I would like to thank the operations team and all our doctors, paramedics and pilots for making this possible.”
