A family favourite, the new series of the popular BBC show gets properly under way tonight.

And this year will see Lowestoft’s Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo aiming to deliver a “knock-out performance” after taking to the Strictly stage for the first time.

Mr Ogogo hopes to follow in the footsteps of Norfolk’s dancing queen Caroline Flack, who was crowned the 2014 Strictly champion.

He will hot-foot it onto the dance floor with an eight-time South African Latin American Champion Oti Mabuse in his bid to win the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball.

In the build-up to being introduced to his new dance partner, Mr Ogogo said: “I am a sportsman, I am used to winning and I would love to give the people at home a knock-out performance.”

The duo have had three weeks to train since their pairing and will perform live every Saturday night.

Mr Ogogo added: “It is amazing.

“I am really out of my comfort zone, but what can you not enjoy? There’s hundreds of people here cheering you on. It is really nice, and really fun.”

What Strictly did for Caroline...

Since winning the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing last year, Caroline Flack has bounced back from heartache, rising to TV fame.

Recently announced as the new face of the X Factor, replacing long-standing presenter, Dermot O’Leary, she is presenting this year’s show alongside Olly Murs.

The pair co-presented the eighth series of Xtra factor together in May 2011 but in June 2014, it was confirmed that miss Flack would not return for series 11 and was replaced by Sarah-Jane Crawford.

Last month she also announced on her Twitter account that she would be releasing an autobiography titled Storm In A C Cup on October 22.

Speaking to presenter Tess Daly, Mr Ogogo admitted to being “so, so nervous” as he waited to discover who he would be paired with. When Ms Daly announced Ms Mabuse as his dance partner, Mr Ogogo said: “I am very happy. I think we will have a lot of fun.”

Fellow presenter Claudia Winkleman then added that the boxer looked “over the moon” to have been paired with Ms Mabuse, to which Mr Ogogo replied: “There are not enough superlatives in the world to describe Oti.”

According to bookmakers, Ogogo is a 20-1 shot to win.
