An acid attack victim from Lowestoft is calling for tougher laws against those who commit such crimes.

Adele Bellis was left disfigured after sulphuric acid was thrown over her during an attack in August 2014.

She has now joined other victims who are pressing the Government to introduce greater sentences for those who carry out the attacks.

It comes after two teenagers were arrested following five acid attacks in London on Thursday night.

As a result, Home Office ministers are reported to be considering measures that would see corrosive substances treated in the same way as other weapons, such as knives.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk on Saturday, Miss Bellis said: “I thought I was going to melt alive.

“I’m blessed with my outcome, it’s the side of my head. But I lost my ear.

“Each day you look in the mirror, so you get used to your new appearance, but it’s psychological.

“One day you’re fine, the next you’re not.”

Mis Bellis’ ex-partner, Anthony Edward Riley was jailed for life in October 2015. He was found guilty of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, conspiracy to apply a corrosive liquid and false imprisonment.
