VICTIMS of domestic abuse and sick children are just some of the people who have been helped today by a generous donation from a food superstore in Lowestoft.

The Community Voice team from Asda, on Belvedere Road, have donated £4500 to five local causes.

Bev Shipp, community colleague at the store, said: “This money is the money that Asda has raised by people paying £10 to use the car park during the Lowestoft Airshow, which we do every year. We are very proud of this and proud to be putting the money back into the charities that needs it most.”

This year the team chose to donate £1000 of toys to the James Paget Hospital’s children’s ward, £1000 to Help an East Coast Child, £1000 to Family Action and £1000 to Meadow Primary. The group also donated £500 the Lowestoft Sea Cadets for helping with the parking arrangements during the airshow.

Ms Shipp added: “Every penny we raise goes back into the community. Family Action is an organisation especially close to my heart and Meadow Primary will be part of our new Asda Mile idea next year.”

A cheque presentation took place at midday and Hilary Flatt, projects manager of Family Action, was there to receive a cheque on behalf of the charity.

Ms Flatt said: “We are just really pleased with the donation. This will help to fund our new workshop, which has been set up for victims of domestic abuse in Waveney, to provide women living in rural areas with emotional support.”
