Man charged after eight burglary offences committed in six days

A man has been charged with eight counts of burglary offences which were committed in less than a week.

Sam Smith’s charges include an aggravated burglary in Lowestoft which occurred on Thursday, October 12.

Officers were called to a property on The Avenue at around 10.40am following reports of a burglary in progress where a window had been smashed and activated the house alarm.

A member of the public reported seeing a man carrying a knife exit the property, who shouted threats as he ran towards a parked car, a grey Volvo.

The 23-year-old, of no fixed address was arrested in Diss on Monday, October 16.

He has been charged with eight counts of burglary offences in Suffolk and Norfolk between Tuesday, October 10 and Monday October 16.

Including; two burglaries at addresses in Gromford Lane, Snape and Hill Farm Road, Halesworth; three aggravated burglaries at addresses in Coleridge Road, Wordworth Road and Heywood Road, Diss; and two attempted burglaries at addresses in St Mary’s Drive and Victoria Close, Diss.

Smith has been remanded in custody and will appear before Norwich Magistrates Court today.
