A Suffolk man will be walking from Lowestoft to Aldeburgh to raise funds for a project to convert farmland into a recreation and wildlife amenity for his village.

Tony Freitas, from Redlingfield, will be taking on the 30-mile Suffolk Coastal Path on Sunday, October 15, to raise money for Redlingfield Doorstep Green.

He is hoping to raise £1,000 for the cause to convert a two-acre piece of farmland and add to the existing three-quarter acre recreation area called Redlingfield Doorstep Green, which was created 10 years ago.

Janet Norman-Philips, parish clerk said: “For a tiny village there are a large number of children and young people. What we didn’t realise at the time was just how popular the green was going to be and that it was far too small. Over the past few years we have raised £27,000 to buy an additional two acres of agricultural land to extend the Doorstep Green.”

Mr Freitas will be setting off at 7.30am and hopes to reach the finish line by 5.30pm. He will be joined by some of his friends.

Several venues along the route have agreed to supply refreshments for the walkers including The Sailors Home at Kessingland and Southwold Pier.
