A couple have created a fearsome way to show their gratitude to a national children’s charity that has given them unconditional support over the years.

Chrissy and Ryan, of Lowestoft have received a great deal of support from Barnardo’s over the years and the charity was instrumental in helping in the adoption of their twin sons.

Now, they have added a new member to their family who is helping them raise funds for the charity - Luna the Dragon.

Made of papier mache using sheets of this very newspaper, Luna is the result of around a week’s work from Chrissy, Ryan and the twins, and has become the symbol of a fundraising campaign for the charity.

Ryan, 28, said: “It began as a project with the boys, inspired by their love of dragons and dinosaurs, but as Luna grew, so did the fundraising ideas.”

So far, the couple have taken Luna into different locations for photographs, while she will also take centre stage when they set up a fundraising stall outside the Britten Centre on October 31.

Then, in the afternoon she will be star attraction in the pair’s Halloween display, outside their Sussex Road home.

Chrissy, 27, said: “We’ve both always been very arty people, but when we show Luna off people can’t believe that she was 100pc hand made.

“We’ve made her a castle, which took a week to build and decorate itself. We can’t wait to reveal on Halloween.”

In a long list of fundraising activities around Luna, Chrissy and Ryan are also selling raffle tickets and have created a number of spooky games and competitions for their stall.

Ryan said: “Barnardo’s have given us so much support over the years, the twins are now five and have been with me since they were 18 months and the charity has done so much for us in this time.”

Chrissy added: “There’s so much negativity in the world, so we wanted to do something to create a real community feel.”
The pair have set up a JustGiving page and have already raised more than £100 for the charity.

Jo Hewitt, Barnardo’s spokesman, said: “We are always incredibly grateful for anyone raising funds for us, so are delighted to hear about Ryan and Chrissy’s hard work.”
