A motorcyclist was clocked doing 110mph on the A47 at Gorleston as week-long police campaign to target speeders continues.

Police caught the rider doing the excessive speed on a 50mph section of the A47 at 9.45pm on Thursday night.

Roads policing officer Steve Lee tweeted: “Another motorcycle stopped for speeding, this time 110MPH on the #A47 #Gorleston (50MPH limit) #slowdown #fatal4, rider reported @TISPOLorg.”

The driver was just one of many who were stopped by police in the region on Thursday as part of the Europe-wide campaign.

Earlier that night another motorcyclist was clocked doing 102mph past an unmarked police car. The rider was later found to have no insurance or a valid driving licence.

Other stops included a driver doing 90mph on the A11 and a number of motorists in Bungay were caught doing between 43mph and 52mph in a 30mph zone.

During the campaign, which runs until Sunday, officers will be speaking with drivers during the campaign, aiming to highlight dangers of speeding and the consequences that driving above the limit can have through education and enforcement.

It comes as harsher speeding fines come into force from Monday in an attempt to deter drivers from breaking speed limits.

Speeding fines for the most serious cases in England and Wales will rise by up to 50pc after magistrates were instructed to get tougher.
