A new ‘fun zone’ on the quay is expected to be a big hitter at this year’s Beccles Carnival Weekend.
On August 19 and 20, the popular annual event returns to the town. However a major new attraction will replace the funfair, which last year came under criticism.
Instead, a brand new ‘fun zone’ is being premiered, hoping to offer an enjoyable time for the whole family.
Made up of inflatable obstacle courses, bungee ropes and various other activities, organisers are hoping the new attraction will go down a treat at the carnival.
Organiser Annette Tackley said: “We weren’t pleased with last year’s funfair so have decided to mix things up this year, and I think it’s going to go down really well.
“Part of it called ‘Last Man Standing’ is like Total Wipeout, so I think adults and teenagers will really enjoy that and the younger children will love other parts of it too.”
Alongside the new attraction, the carnival will also include its traditional Sunday parade, which will see floats form a procession from Roys at 1pm, through the town and down to the quay.
She added: “We’ve got 46 floats signed up already, so it should be one of the biggest parades we have had yet.
“The parade is always a big highlight and hopefully this year should be no different. I particularly enjoy being able to go the wrong way up a one-way street.”
There are also expected to be more stalls spread across the quayside than previous years, with many of the stalls being run by local businesses.
The two days of fun begins at 1pm on Saturday, August 19 with highlights including fancy dress, the Beccles Bonny Baby Competition, arena displays and a dog show.
In the evening, from 6pm, there will be live music on the quayside, featuring the Fortunate Sons, Catch 22 and The Stereotypes performing, alongside Moor Music Roadshow.
On Sunday, August 20 the parade will take centre stage, with further arena displays, stalls and more entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
Sunday afternoon displays will include Bollywood Sparkles, Urban Allstars and the Waggy Tails Dog Display Team.
Entrance to the quayside area of the carnival will be £1, with accompanied children going free. Programmes are also £1.
