A familiar face has been appointed as the new principal of a Lowestoft high school.

Ben Driver will be stepping into the role at Ormiston Denes Academy having worked as interim principal since September 2016.

He joined the team from Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey, Norwich, where he had been vice principal since January 2014.

During his time at Victory, Mr Driver oversaw outstanding student progress in subjects across the curriculum, and last year excellent achievements in GCSE and A-level results.

He aims to continue working with staff, pupils and parents to ensure all pupils make exceptional progress both in lessons and through enrichment outside of the classroom.

Mr Driver said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Ormiston Denes Academy and have thoroughly enjoyed working closely with all the fantastic staff, students and parents over the last few months.

“With the dedication of our staff and the support of our community and Ormiston Academies Trust, I am committed to ensuring that we continue to provide a high and sustainable standard of education for the young people of Lowestoft.”

As well as bringing a wealth of educational experience to the role, Mr Driver also brings a passion for the local area, having lived and worked in both Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth for most of his teaching career.

He will continue to be supported in his work by the wider senior team at Ormiston Academies Trust.

Nicole McCartney, national director of performance and partnerships and managing director (east) of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), said: “I am incredibly pleased that Ben Driver has been offered, and has accepted, the principalship at Ormiston Denes Academy.

“After a rigorous two-day interview process involving staff, students, governors and members of the OAT executive and OAT board of trustees, it was unanimously decided that Mr Driver has the skill, vision and level of dedication to continue to drive forward progress at Denes.”

Mr Driver joined the school after former principal Peter Marshall left to explore other career opportunities.
