Police have warned drivers to drive to the conditions as strong winds have brought down a number of trees across the region.

The A1067 at Guist is blocked in both directions at the junction with the B1110 because of a fallen tree while Hembsy Road in Martham is also partially blocked.

Numerous events have also been cancelled including both Fakenham and Burnham Market’s Christmas lights being switched on.

Fakenham mayor Adrian Vertigan said: “We decided we couldn’t risk anybody getting hurt.

“We are looking to possibly rearrange it.

“The lights will still go on but there won’t be a switch on as such. We are absolutely gutted but I’m afraid looking at the weather we decided it was safer to call it off.”

Sculthorpe Moor, near Fakenham, has closed its reserve due to high winds however the visitor centre is open as normal and the Autumn Owl Prowl event in the evening will go ahead as planned.

Norfolk police used their Twitter feed to caution drivers saying: “#Norfolkroads VERY WINDY - numerous trees down - drive carefully - be prepared - drive to the conditions”.

Bus company  Norfolk Green tweeted: “A tree has fallen in #Stiffkey causing some issues at the moment. We’ll keep you updated!”
