A second man has been charged in connection with the rape of a young woman in Lowestoft in December.

A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday, Wednesday January 4, in connection with the incident.

Police were contacted just after 9.10pm on December 11 about the incident.

A young woman had been on a night out and left the seafront area of Lowestoft around 3am on December 11 in the company of two men.

They walked through the town to the Britten Centre, where the young woman was raped.

Joe Davis, 22, of Bungay, has now been charged with two counts of rape.

He was detained in custody overnight pending an appearance before Norwich Magistrates this morning, Thursday January 5.

He has now been granted conditional bail to appear at Ipswich Crown Court Friday, January 13.

A 24-year-old man - Frederick Dawkins of London Road South, Lowestoft – was arrested on December 15 and was also charged with two counts of rape.

He appeared before Norwich Magistrates on December 16 and now is also due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on January 13.
