The driver of a Mercedes was detained in the early hours of Monday morning, Norfolk and Suffolk roads policing said, having blown a positive roadside breath test.

He had crashed into three parked cars and a telegraph pole, but police said, “fortunately and amazingly”, he only suffered a minor injury.

Meanwhile, another suspected drink driver was arrested in Thetford on Sunday night after initially being recorded as four times over the limit on a breath test - 136 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

But they tweeted just before 11.40pm to say the driver had in fact blown 159 and 152 while in custody - almost five times over the limit.

Police thanked the public, who they said managed to detain to driver before they arrived.
