A HGV lorry has broken down close to the Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft, causing traffic delays.

Police are currently providing assistance and traffic control at the scene as the lorry – which is in the middle lane – is understood to have suffered gearbox failure.

As work to recover the vehicle continues, traffic is said to be moving in both directions around the broken down lorry.

A police spokesman said: “We were called just before 11am today following reports that a HGV had broken down by the A47 bascule bridge.

“Traffic is moving in both directions around the lorry, which is in the middle lane, and we are arranging recovery.”
