This photograph shows the grenade that army bomb disposal experts destroyed in a controlled explosion on Thursday afternoon after it was found on a north Suffolk beach.

The grenade was discovered on the beach at Kessingland, near Lowestoft, by the Benacre sluice at about 12.45pm.

An army bomb disposal team from Colchester was called in to dispose of the grenade, which still had explosive in.

It was destroyed in a controlled explosion at 4.30pm.

Police and coastguard also attended the scene, which was cordoned off.

if anyone finds any suspected ordnance on the coastline they should move away to a safe distance and dial 999 for Coastguard and police and under no circumstances attempt to touch or move the object.
