Less then a year after a prominent boxing club returned with a bang, another national champion has emerged.

Having honed the skills of Olympians Anthony Ogogo and Charley Davison, Triple A Boxing Club in Lowestoft is celebrating its latest England national champion.

After relaunching with regular classes and a new gym at NR Health and Fitness Club on Pinbush Road in south Lowestoft, Triple A successfully hosted its first homecoming show in 20 years at the Wherry Hotel in March.

And on Sunday, Brooke Matthews was cheered on by family, friends, coaches and teammates for finals day at the England Boxing National Schools Championships held at the Guildford Spectrum.

Competing in the Class B category (Under 46kg) Brooke beat Ruby Ferguson, from Golden Ring BC, by a unanimous decision.

With Ogogo and Davison having been coached as youngsters by John Cremin and Frank Bacon, Cremin expressed delight as "another national champion for Triple A" triumphed at the national England boxing championships.

Cremin said: "Brooke produced a very strong performance to take the national title with a unanimous points victory.

"In doing so, she has booked her place on the England pathway program to represent England in the GB schools Three Nations tournament in June in Wales and set up a place in the European selection squad for this summer.

"This is a fantastic achievement for the club, and shows we at Triple A are back as strong as ever!

"We are so proud of Brooke in her dedication and non stop training in preparation for these championships - running every day, sometimes twice - and training at the gym.

"N R health and fitness have supported the club and made everything possible with their fully equipped gym for Triple A to train in.

"Brooke’s aim is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of Anthony Ogogo  and Charley Davison and eventually reach the pinnacle of an amateur boxer in becoming an Olympic boxer."

With the champions rewarded with a pair of Golden Gloves, Brooke was back in Lowestoft this week as she attended the club's Monday night Women Rising To Box session to "inspire other females".
