With the new 2023/24 season just over two weeks away, Lowestoft Town have added a talented teenage defender to their squad.

The Trawlerboys have signed Dan White, from Dereham, after he impressed on trial in pre-season.

However, attacking midfielder Chris Henderson has left the Blues, and signed for Harleston Town.

After very impressive 1-8 and 0-5 away wins for The Trawlerboys - at Histon last Saturday, and Fakenham on Tuesday respectively - Jamie Godbold's men are now set for two tough tests to complete their pre-season programme.

The Trawlerboys will head to Victory Road on Saturday to take on Suffolk rivals Leiston, who play in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

And next Saturday, August 5 a final pre-season game has been arranged, with Lowestoft set to host Pitching In Isthmian League premier division side Canvey Island at the Foster's Solicitors Community Stadium.

The new season kicks off on August 12, with Lowestoft on their travels for their first two competitive games.

They are away to Basildon in the Pitching In Isthmian League north division on the opening day, before visiting Corby Town in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday, August 19.

Of the last two friendly matches, Godbold said: "We have played some really good stuff over the last two games, as the scores suggest.

"We look like we are in a really good place, with the benefits of having a really stable team, but we know tougher tests will come in the next few games."

Jake Reed hit a hat trick last Saturday, before taking a midweek rest, with goals from Dave Hinton, Charlie Norman, Sam Johnson and Kyle Haylock at Histon.

A much changed line-up then hit five at Fakenham in midweek.

After securing the signing of young defender White, Godbold said: "We welcome Dan to the squad and we're really pleased - he will be a really good addition for us.

"He has been on trial and has impressed with his versatility in defence, in either full back role or centrally, while playing well beyond his years.

"His commitment has been excellent and he brings competition to the defensive roles."
