Lowestoft Town manager Jamie Godbold has hailed a "really positive" start to the new season as The Trawlerboys prepare for a busy week ahead.

After moving to the top of the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division table last Saturday with a 2-1 win over Stowmarket, Lowestoft maintained their perfect home record.

Jake Reed's two goals sealed victory in the all-Suffolk derby as Lowestoft continued their winning home start to the season in league and cup action at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium.

Attentions will switch from the league however for the next week, with two cup games due to be played in four days.

Lowestoft return to Isuzu FA Trophy action and a quick reunion with Basildon this Saturday, September 23 for a second round qualifying tie - after both sides had drawn 1-1 in the league on the opening day of the season.

After a "really good performance" that saw Lowestoft victorious over Stowmarket, Godbold said: "I thought we were really good value and it was a well earned three points.

"Basildon are the only team that have taken points off us, but we are likely to face a very, very different side to the one we played on the opening day.

"It will be a difficult game, against different personnel, but it is a game we want to win and progress in this competition."

Next Tuesday, September 26 The Trawlerboys will be in Suffolk Premier Cup action with a home game at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium against Walsham Le Willows.

With a fully fit squad to select from for the week ahead, and looking to continue a "really positive start to the season", of Tuesday's game Godbold said: "It will be very much a team we put out to win the game, while also having a look at a few players."
