Double success for Falat at Oulton Broad

Fourteen boats raced in Saturday’s light, shifty breeze at Waveney and Oulton Broad YC.

Veronica Falat won both Fast Handicap races in her Streaker dinghy while honours were shared by George Madin (RS Tera) and Thomas Betts (Topper) in the Slow Handicap.

In the Waveney race Naiad, sailed by Geoff Little and Sue Harper, was slow to start but caught a lifting gust and took the lead. However, Simon and Caroline Marfleet in Iris overtook them and finished first. In the Mixed Keels it was again close between these two boats, with Naiad leading for most of the race but Iris ahead at the finish.

Over 20 Topper dinghies were also sailing, taking part in training organised by the Topper class association.

Conditions were quite different on Sunday with a very strong southerly wind and only four Squibs and a Laser ventured out. Crazy Diamond, sailed by David Gooch and Marc Moncrieff, won both races.
