Former Norwich City defender Michael Spillane has left Lowestoft Town and signed for Chelmsford City.

The 27-year-old centre-back began his career with the Canaries and made his debut in an FA Cup third round clash with West Ham in 2006, becoming the youngest player to feature for the Canaries in the competition.

He played 26 times for City before joining Luton on loan for the 2008-09 season, making 38 appearances. It was then City manager Glenn Roeder who sent Spillane and team-mate Chris Martin to Kenilworth Road at the same time – famously labelling them Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

Spillane later played for Brentford, Dagenham & Redbridge, Southend, Cambridge United and Sutton United before joining the Trawlerboys last summer.
