Anthony Ogogo says he will be back in the ring soon after undergoing a fourth operation on his left eye.

The 29-year-old former Olympic bronze medalist from Lowestoft is expecting to be fit to resume his professional career next year and insists he will be come back a better boxer than he was before.

Ogogo has been in the United States for more surgery on his left eye, which he fractured in a defeat to Craig Cunningham in October 2016, and posted a picture of the result on his official Twitter feed.

He also gave followers a lengthy update on his progress, insisting his only focus now is getting his boxing career back on track and eventually winning a world title.

“These are the lengths that I am willing to go to chase down my dream,” he wrote. “Footage of the recent surgery I had on my eye, the fourth eye surgery I’ve had in the last year.

“In the past I’ve got stick for doing things outside boxing, ie TV programmes, these have only been when injured or unable to fight.

“I don’t put myself through things like this because I want to be a ‘celebrity’. I do this because my dream is become world middleweight champion like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard and Bernard Hopkins to name but a few.

“I have to thank modern medicine and the skilled people that have always enabled me to return to the sport that I love, This time it will be no different - simply put - I will be back (soon).

“Overcoming obstacles is what I do and I cannot wait to overcome obstacles in the boxing ring and finally show the British and worldwide public what I can do in the squared circle.

”For those people that have always supported me I thank you. I have been working my socks off so when I do get back in the ring I’ll be better than ever.

“Thankyou for your patience, the wait will be worth it, I promise.”
