Lowestoft League Division One leaders Mutford & Wrentham win again

In the Lowestoft & District Saturday League sponsored by Lauren Lou Cancer Fundraising UK Division One leaders Mutford & Wrentham stay one point ahead after winning 5-0 at Norton Athletic.

The goals were shared around, with Purser, Boyd, Gissing, Bedingfield and Conroy all on target. Second place Oxford Arms beat Stanford 6-2 with Willis and Degan scoring two apiece and Wright and Lish also on target.

In third place Oulton Broad drew 2-2 away to Southwold while Barsham were beaten 5-2 at home by Spexhall with goals from Chapman (2) and Shipley, Mortimer and Rio-Peterson.

Division Two leaders Beccles Caxton drew 4-4 at Ellingham, the scorers for Ellingham being T Eincker (3) and Williams.

Third-placed Kirkley & Pakefield B beat Spexhall Reserves away 5-1 but game of the day was Hopton’s home match against Bungay A, which ended in a 5-5 draw.

Scorers for Hopton were Markham (3) and Ellis and Wright with one each while Bungay’s scorers were Porter (3), Hudson and Molloy one each.

Earsham Reserves were winning their game 3-0 but it was abandoned due to a player sustaining a broken leg and everyone connected with the league wishes the Earsham player a speedy recovery.

In Division Three Celt Rangers stay top after their opponents called off.

Second placed East Coast could not take advantage as they lost 2-1 away to Mariners FC. Third-placed Gentlemen’s Club also lost away to Redwood United 3-0, Silva and Dann scoring.

AFC Oulton beat bottom team Hawthorn United 9-0 away and Art Eternal beat Stanford Reserves 5-2 with goals from Boyce (2), Belmore, Gibson and Cruckshank.

Meanwhile Lowestoft Ladies’ tough run in the Eastern Region Women’s League Premier Division continued when they were beaten 8-0 at Brentwood Town.

The heavy defeat followed a similar pattern, with the Blues having lost their previous two away games 7-1 at Dunstable and 15-0 at second placed Writtle. They had lost 4-1 at home to AFC Sudbury in their previous game fixture.

Lowestoft remain bottom of the table with just three points from eight games. They take on Bedford Ladies at the Amber Dew Events Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).
