New Lowestoft Town boss Dale Brooks insists his squad start from a clean slate after making the step up from being Ady Gallagher’s assistant.

Brooks was named the new boss at the Amber Dew Events Stadium last week after Gallagher stepped down and the former Southend United under-21s chief wants his players to prove they want to be part of the Blues’ immediate future.

Brooks knows he has to make the transition from being assistant to main man and some difficult decisions lie ahead as he looks to put his stamp on the team.

However, each player will get the chance to show they can help the Trawlerboys start climbing the Bostik Premier Division table.

“The first thing I said to the players is that what has gone on in the past is in the past,” said Brooks. “There were never any problems in the dressing room but there are always going to be individuals who are in or out of favour - that’s the nature of football.

“But we’re starting from a clean slate.”

Brooks’ first two games in charge have both ended in defeat against Metropolitan Police and Needham Market, demonstrating the scale of the job he has taken on.

Brooks would like to supplement the squad and has been working on bringing in players on loan.

“I’ve been trying to get some players in,” he said. “There are a few other people who know now that I’m the decision maker at the club so perhaps we might be able to do a few things.

“But it has to be the right deal for the parent club and it has to be the right deal for Lowestoft.

“If they don’t think Lowestoft is conducive to helping develop their players then it won’t happen.

“I could bring in 10-15 players but if they are not going to be to the benefit of Lowestoft then it’s not the right thing to do.”

Lowestoft entertain Merstham at home this afternoon and have several injury worries, revealing that two “influential players” are major doubts.

Any person, whatever age, wearing their respective uniforms will get free entry into the game this afternoon. This includes, but is not limited to, girl guides, beavers, scouts, sea cadets and all armed forces personnel.
