New Lowestoft Town chairman Alan Green believes the Blues can return to the National League set-up.

Green was named as the new man in the hot-seat almost a week after Gary Keyzor stood down to concentrate on work commitments.

“It has been an honour and privilege to have been part of this club for 15 years or so,” said Green.

“There have been many challenges, but also some great times, like going to Wembley, gaining promotion at the fourth attempt and being in the Conference League (National League). I truly believe this club has the potential to regain our position and I ask you the fans to join me in this quest.”

The Blues went up to the National League set-up in 2013-14 for the first time in their history after a stunning run of defeats in three previous consecutive finals.

Their stay lasted just two seasons, as they finished 16th in Conference North and then 20th in what then became National League North after renaming.

They finished 11th in the league last season.

Keyzor will remain a director at the club, although Trevor Kettle has stood down for personal reasons.

In a statement on their website, the club said Keyzor’s decision to step down had been made for work related reasons.

“There are not enough words to thank Gary for his outstanding work and commitment to our club over the past years and his presence as chairman will be sorely missed,” said the statement.

The club have also announced that commercial manager Sam Hossack, has accepted an invitation to join the board of directors. Hossack has been involved with the club for approaching three years.

“It is an absolute dream come true to be invited onto the board, having been a fan of the club since a young lad and being born and bred in Lowestoft,” he said.

“It is an absolute honour.”

Lowestoft were 1-0 home winners over Thurrock in midweek, a result which lifted them to 19th in the Bostik Premier Division table, ahead of another home game this weekend, at home to Harrow Borough.
