On a cold, wet and gloomy Saturday, Kirkley & Pakefield played hosts to Ipswich Wanderers at Walmer Road.

The Royals, after three successive defeats and a goalless goal tally, were looking for an improved performance and welcomed back regular keeper Luis Tibbles and Elliot Whiteside plus Lee Will to the starting 11 with Cain Eagleton and Jack Smith reverting to the bench.

The early stages saw Wanderers create more attacking options but it was Will who had the first worthwhile shot on target after 20 minutes which brought a save from Bradbrook.

Play was even with very few chances but on 40 minutes the Royals saw a header just wide and then produced four successive corners, but half time saw a blank scoresheet.

Whiteside produced a good shot that brought a one-handed save from the keeper and from a free kick a King header went over. The Royals produced most of the attacking play and a goal eventually came on 80 minutes when a Hammond shot was cleared and went to Grint who crossed for Ross King to rise and head home for the Royals’ first goal in four games.

Tomorrow Kirkley & Pakefield have no match but have a league match on Wednesday at Walsham Le Willows at 7.45pm.

The Reserves travelled to fifth-placed Acle on Saturday and recorded their second league win of the season, returning with a 3-2 victory. The young Royals scored after two minutes through Kaiden Goldspink. The home team equalised before Jordan Attree, signed from Wroxham, played a prominent part.

Goldspink scored his second and midway through the second half Elliot Patrick put the visitors 3-1 up. With six minutes remaining Acle netted but the young Royals held out for three welcome points. Tomorrow they have a relegation battle at home to bottom side Cromer at 2pm.

On Saturday the A team recorded a 1-1 draw at home to Spexhall. The next round of the Mick Johnson League Cup takes place tomorrow with the A team at Norton Athletic and the B team home to First & Last on the 3G Arena, both matches at 1.30pm.
