Chasing Rainbows

Southwold showed themselves to be worthy London 3EC leaders with a convincing win over their visitors from Holt who, apart from a few spells, never managed to raise their game to the level shown during their recent run of victories.

From the kick-off Southwold showed their determination and during the first few minutes breached the Holt defence with their strong direct play.

A try by Adam Smith, converted by Josh Wallis put the home side 7-0 ahead.

Holt hit back with a strong run by Robbie Gray which put away Henry Flower to score in the corner to make it 7-5.

The Holt defence had an off day and looked fragile against the strong running of Wold’s back line with their half backs Chris Middleton and Antony Callum looking dangerous whenever they had the ball.

Oliver Carlstroem was next to score when he shrugged off two tackles and the conversion by Wallis made it 14-5.

The Wold pack continued to secure good possession and Jon Mayall at number eight powered his way over the line and the conversion by Wallis made the half-time score 21-5.

The second half followed the same pattern and Wold soon increased their lead with a try by James Hall converted by Wallis, taking their lead to 28-5.

Iain Young came off the bench for Holt and had immediate effect, creating space for a try by Van Poortvliet converted by James Wyatt.

Wold then increased their lead to 33-12 with a try by Jacob English. The visitors cause was not helped when Poortvliet and Goodwille had to leave the field due to injuries.

While Holt were enjoying a better period they were caught when Carlstroem intercepted and fed Jacob English. Sammy Wright came off the bench for Holt and had his usual impact with a try converted by Wyatt to reduce the deficit to 38-19.

Holt continued to press until the final whistle but Wold underlined their superiority with a try by Callum Anthony to conclude the scoring.

The Woodfordes Man of the Match for Holt was Tim Allen.
