Lowestoft Town boss Ady Gallagher has challenged Josh Greenleaf to fulfil his potential after the striker’s match-winning display in midweek.

The summer signing made the difference midway through the second half against Needham Market with two clinical finishes as the Trawlerboys bagged only their second league win of the season.

Gallagher hopes Greenleaf has finally found a home at the Amber Dew Events Stadium after unsuccessful stints at Sutton United and Metropolitan Police.

The Blues chief believes there is a lot more to come from the forward and thinks he is in the right environment to harness his talent.

“A lot of young players have very good potential but it’s about fulfilling that,” he said. “A lot of players have ability but you’ve got to have the right attitude to work with that.

“He still needs to improve in those areas but it’s encouraging to see that type of response from him. There’s a lot more to come – I know he is capable of much more.

“He’s a nice lad who wants to do well but he’s had too many clubs in his young career so far and there’s a reason for that. He needs to take control of his future and if he does that then he can be a very good player.”

The big turning point on Tuesday came when Ben Dudzinski saved Darryl Coakley’s 68th-minute penalty after the big goalkeeper was adjudged to have brought down Ryan Gibbs.

It could prove a pivotal moment in Lowestoft’s season ahead of the Blues’ FA Cup second qualifying round tie at home to Harlow this afternoon.

“To come though that kind of challenge in the way we did must give us a lot of confidence,” added Gallagher. “We’ve got to take that into the next game and it needs to be the start of something for us.”

Lowestoft know all about today’s opponents having lost 2-0 to them in the league last month.

“It will be a good gauge to see how far we’ve come in that short space of time,” said Gallagher. “I want to see that we’ve made progress.

“It’s a winnable tie - but they will be thinking exactly the same.”
