Thetford Town’s progress under Danny White will face its sternest examination against Premier Division leaders Norwich United.

The Brecklanders picked up just four points in their first five matches following the appointment of the rookie manager – well known for having been a combatative midfielder with a host of non-league clubs in the area.

Yet their form, and performances especially, has improved of late with another seven points collected from six outings boosting Town’s hopes of climbing out of the bottom three.

White, speaking during an online question and answer session ahead of today’s trip to Norwich United, said: “We have some good players at the club and I feel we have strengthened with the signings we have made.

“The players we have should be able to move us up the table. The target was to remain in the league and build next season. My target now is to finish around 14th.

“The team is improving with each game. They have set the standard in the last two (league) games so need consistency now.”

Thetford, 18th, have picked up four points in their last two matches and are just two points from safety.

While they may struggle to triumph at Plantation Park this afternoon against the champions and title favourites, it will provide White with another chance to see how far his side have come since his October appointment.

Ninteenth-placed Fakenham Town, level on points with the Brecklanders despite having played three games more, visit Saffron Walden Town, 16th. Out-of-sorts Swaffham Town, 15th, look for only their second win in 13 matches at the side directly above the drop zone, Walsham le Willows. Elsewhere, Gorleston visit Hadleigh United in a mid-table showdown.

In the First Division, Great Yarmouth Town, third, can strengthen their hopes of promotion by winning at home against AFC Sudbury Reserves.

Yarmouth have won their two matches this year 9-0 and 5-1, the perfect response to a 2015-ending reverse at Diss.

Joint-boss Adam Mason said: “It’s fair to say we have seen a reaction in the last two games with not only six points but two excellent performances. We will be continuing this push and are certainly not satisfied.”

Dereham Town Reserves could do Yarmouth a huge favour by winning at home against Ely City, second. King’s Lynn Town Reserves, fourth, host Debenham LC while Downham Town welcome Diss Town.

United Counties League Premier Division side Wisbech Town host First Division Olney Town in the UCL Knockout Cup quarter-finals.
