Following the British Championships, Waveney Gymnastics Club were represented at the Open Disability Competition in Poole, an annual event supported by clubs from across the country.

The trampoline competition is based upon a 10 bounce routine and scored out of a total of 10 marks.

Girls’ under 12: Poppy Weddle 6.40 and first place; Girls’ under 16: Chloe Jacobs 6.00 and second place.

Boys’ under 12: Simon Booth 6.10 to be paced seventh; Jack Jacobs 8.20 to finish second; Rudi Chaplin 8.30 to finish first; Boys’ under 16: Jack Witheridge 7.20 to finish second.

All these gymnasts also competed in the gymnastics event as well, but the girls’ competition was only on vault, beam and floor and the boys did not compete on all the normal six pieces of apparatus, so there were medals for each piece of apparatus.

Girls’ under 16, level 1: Chloe Jacobs on Floor 18.30 (second), Vault 18.20 (third), Beam 19.50 (second).

This again proved an excellent competition for those taking part from the club and the whole competition was rounded off with awards of recognition for those behind the scenes of the success of these youngsters and their achievements. The competition awarded a Coach of the Year to Ellen Hutchings from Waveney Gymnastics Club for achievements in the last 12 months and this is well deserved and a great honour for the club in general and their policy of full integration for all members.

The club would welcome any local company or individuals who may wish to sponsor these young gymnasts or the club in general. Please contact the club on 01502 501419 or email at waveneygym@aol.com. You can also research the club on the club’s website www.waveneygymnastics.org

This was a clear battle between the exuberant youth and pace of Southwold and the canny experience of the older and bigger Crusaders team, who, despite the scoreline, put the hosts under great pressure several times in the game.

Prior to this first ever meeting between the teams they were separated by goal difference only, so it is no surprise they cancelled each other out and settled for a point each.
