A new district commissioner has been unveiled to lead Scouts in the Lowestoft area.

And in one of her first roles as district commissioner for Scouting in Lowestoft, the new post holder expressed delight as she witnessed 100 badges being presented to a colony of Beaver scouts.

Jo-Anna Harley was appointed as District Commissioner for Lowestoft and District Scouts last month taking over from Mel Buck - who had been in the role for more than 10 years.

At the end of her first month in the top job she visited the 1st Oulton Broad Beaver Colony at their headquarters in Nelson Wharf, Victoria Road for an awards ceremony.

In front of proud parents and carers more than 100 badges were awarded to 11 Beavers for their exceptional accomplishments over the past three months.

The badges awarded by leaders Peter Whittaker, Martine Macdonald, Shannon Pull, Martin Sherry (GSL) and Ben Drage (AGSL), acknowledged the Beavers diverse skills, ranging from outdoor expertise to community service and life skills.

District Commissioner Jo-anna Harley then awarded three Chief Scout Bronze Awards - the highest award available to a Beaver Scout.

Mrs Harley said: "I offer congratulations to all the Beavers, their parents/carers and their devoted leaders for helping them to earn these badges.

"It is a wonderful achievement."

Of her new appointment, Mrs Harley added: "I am really excited.

"I have always wanted to be District Commissioner although it has come a bit earlier than I thought I would.

"It has always been my goal - as I have done every other role in the 20 years that I have been in scouting.

"I am really looking forward to the job.

"Mel Buck was an excellent mentor, so I am going to take everything he has done and keep it in place, build on it and keep his legacy alive.

"I want to see Lowestoft District Scouts thriving and growing."
