A bus company has announced it will be extending its service to Southwold after residents expressed concerns.

First Eastern Counties is continuing its 99 service beyond Kessingland Africa Alive and onto Southwold – calling at Wrentham and Reydon on the way.

The news comes after Anglian Bus, who operate the 61 service, announced they will stop calling at Southwold from July 25.

Journey times to the popular holiday resort take 45 minutes from Lowestoft Bus Station, 35 minutes from Pakefield and 20 minutes from Kessingland Africa Alive.

Hugo Forster, general manager for First Eastern Counties said: 'We initially decided to extend the service beyond Kessingland onto Southwold to allow the many people who already use our coastal network throughout the summer another popular destination to explore.

'However, after receiving requests from residents who were concerned about losing their bus service, we were happy to extend our existing service with additional earlier morning journeys and a Sunday service.'
