They are strong communities with their own identities – but traditionally areas like Kirkley, Pakefield and Gunton have been left without parish councils fighting on their behalf.
But now, people in the 'un-parished' areas of Lowestoft are being asked for their views on whether they want a new town council.
There are already a range of strong views, with some saying town councils will address a 'democratic deficit' and others concerned a new organisation will be 'large' and 'cumbersome'.
But Labour's Sonia Barker said whatever their views: 'Lowestoft people must let their voice be heard.'
