Eyes bright and tails wagging, these greyhounds put on an impressive display when they descended on Pakefield.

It was all organised as part of the Great British Greyhound Walk, a national campaign organised to raise awareness of the number of retired racing dogs in need of loving homes.

Becky Carr, the event organiser, led the way with her greyhound Arthur, who had dressed up for the occasion with a Union Flag bow tie.

'A lot of people don't realise they make really good pets,' she said.

'They are very passive, very friendly and actually very lazy!

'The event is really about getting the dogs out there and getting people to see them together.'

The event started at the car park in All Saints Road, in Pakefield, and the route continued along the beach, prom and cliffs.

Around 60 greyhounds, whippets and lurchers took part, accompanied by their owners and other family pets.

Among the walkers taking part was Sue Stretton and her two greyhounds, Parker and Patch - along with honorary greyhound for the day, golden retriever Sadie.

She said: 'Our greyhounds are both retired racing dogs and they do make such great pets - they are so chilled.

'It's a myth that they need hours and hours of exercise - they get two walks a day and they're quite happy.'

Miss Carr, from Oulton Broad, said: 'I just fell in love with the breed and it's lovely to see retired racing dogs going to good homes. It's where they belong.'
