STAY SAFE: Road safety dangers were highlighted to year seven students during a workshop at one Lowestoft academy.
Touring theatre group, the Riot Act, visited East Point Academy recently, in collaboration with Suffolk Roadsafe.
The touring theatre group delivered an interactive theatre in education production to the youngsters, with the aim of highlighting key messages to the pupils around road safety dangers, which arise from distractions such as using mobile phones or wearing headphones as a pedestrian, along with peer pressure and anti-social behaviour.
Lewis Gaddison, from the Riot Act group, said: 'Our aims are to make young people aware of the risk of using mobile phones and other electrical devices when walking along the road. Our presentation is split into two parts, a 25 minute play and workshop with a question and answer forum for the young people. We make it interesting fun and thought-provoking for all ages, but ultimately highlight the realistic dangers and considerations for safety.'
The year seven students enjoyed the production and asked some useful and thought-provoking questions during the workshop forum.
After the production, Mr Gaddison spoke in glowing terms about the East Point Academy pupils, their maturity and engagement.
He said: 'The pupils at East Point Academy contributed well and it couldn't have gone any better; everyone got involved and the behaviour was excellent'.
