PEOPLE in Kessingland are being promised for a right royal time during the Queen's Jubilee celebrations after the village secured 4,400 from the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme.
A number of events are being organised for the special bank holiday of June 1-4, with pupils at Kessingland Primary School playing a key role. But the big focus of the weekend will come on Monday, June 4 when a traditional village fete is held with a 1950s theme – including a sports day, swing boats, a steam railway, Punch and Judy, donkey rides, horse-drawn carriages, craft activities, vintage vehicles and a fancy dress competition.
During the evening, there will be entertainment on the beach and the event will end with a spectacular laser show and the lighting of a beacon.
Other planned events include a beer festival at The Sailor's Home pub, a 'Big Lunch' at Kessingland Primary School to which older villagers will be invited, an art/photographic competition, a children's jubilee mug design contest and special celebration services at St Edmund's Church and the Methodist Church.
As lasting legacies, a jubilee bench has been commissioned close to the village sign and 113 trees and shrubs will be planted around the village, thanks to the Woodland Trust's Jubilee Woods project.
