Rock dropped on car in Lowestoft

A LOWESTOFT woman this week relived a 'frightening' incident as she escaped injury along with her two children after vandals threw a rock at their car.

The potentially disastrous situation was narrowly avoided this week after youths threw a rock from the footbridge over The Ravine on to their vehicle at about 1.05pm to 1.10pm last Friday .

The rock was dropped as the car passed under the bridge, cracking the front windscreen of the vehicle.

Fortunately, the 50-year-old woman driving and her two children in the car were unhurt.

Speaking exclusively to The Journal, the mother - who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal - hit out at the mindless actions.

With her children in the back seats, she recalled how the family were making their way down The Ravine when 'a large stone or rock' bounced off their car.

'It was an awfully loud band and eventually when I pulled the car over a big crack was coming up from the centre of the windscreen,' she said.

The incident had shocked her children and three boys were spotted on the bridge around the time of the incident.

'We heard them laughing and shouting at the time, and they were about 15-years-old with one wearing a white hooded top while another had a rucksack,' she said.

'You don't think about it at the time, and it was only on reflection afterwards just how serious this could've been and how lucky we were that the sunroof wasn't open and it didn't hit one of us.

'What if it had been a mother with a baby in the front seat, or an elder person who could've suffered a heart attack as it was such a loud bang - it was really frightening,' she added.

'The initial thoughts were of anger, but when I got home and thought what could've happened - well it doesn't bare thinking about.'

Police are keen to trace the three boys seen on the bridge at the

time.

'Officers are asking anyone who saw the incident or the boys in the area at the time, as there was a lot of traffic around this area, or anyone with information about who they are, to call police on 01986 835300,' said a police spokesman.
