THE team behind keeping Lowestoft tidy has picked up a national accolade for their efforts in promoting cleanliness across the district.

Waveney District Council and partners Waveney Norse have been awarded four stars by the British Cleaning Council at the Clean Britain Awards, held at the NEC in Birmingham.

It is only their first year of entering, but feedback from inspectors was encouraging, giving the overall impression that Waveney is clean and tidy and the sort of place people would want to visit.

Mike Daniels, cleansing service manager for Waveney Norse, said that taking on board the judges' comments and with the continued support of the public via the Keep Lowestoft Tidy campaign they hope to gain five stars or one of the top awards next year.

He said: 'The four star grading is testament to the hard work put in by everyone in the cleansing team at Waveney Norse, with the support of Waveney District Council's waste management team.

'We would also like to thank the town and parish councils, as the feedback and information they supply plays an important role in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness across the district.

'We also can't forget the members of the public, who through the Keep Lowestoft Tidy Campaign have organised litter picks and kept us informed of any cleaning issues.'

Inspectors who visited the area spoke of sights you would wish to see on holiday, as well as there being an abundance of things to do and plenty of seating.
