I AM Oulton Broad born and bred and still live in the area.I walk into Oulton Broad three or four times a week; it is a lovely community, the shop keepers are friendly and glad to help, as are mine hosts of the local hostelries where you can always find good food, a good pint and good company.

If that is not to your liking what could be better than a good cuppa and a hot sausage roll on the quay taking in the lovely views of one of our best assets; the Broads.
However, I am also a motorist and I for one am very happy that at last something is being done to improve the junction at Cotmer Road and Beccles Road.
It has been a long time coming so six weeks of inconvenience is a small price to pay compared to the months, if not years, of road works that our neighbours at Lowestoft have had to endure.
It is also good to see improvements are being made to the cycle track from the Flying Dutchman to Oulton Broad.
We have witnessed many a near miss between car and bike, especially outside the Spar shop where inconsiderate motorists will bypass two car parks to park on the cycle track, causing problems for both cyclists and pedestrians alike. Will it take a fatality before this bad practice is stopped?
I also agree with Peter Waller about over-development in Oulton Broad; certainly something needs to be done on the eyesore that once was home to the Leo Robinson and Pegasus boat yards, also the former Oswald Marina opposite the Wherry Hotel, but it must be made to enhance the area while maintaining some of our past. Ancient and modern can blend successfully when planned carefully.
