LOWESTOFT in Bloom members are hoping that people will help to make the town sparkle next week.

Lowestoft's entry in the annual Anglia in Bloom will be assessed on Wednesday morning.

Representatives from the regional committee will be in town to judge the entry in the Coastal Resorts category. And in an effort to sway the judges, Lowestoft in Bloom members have produced a varied programme.

“This will cover not only floral displays but general cleanliness of streets and beach areas, conservation, sustainable planting, recycling, residential gardens, parks and allotments,” said committee member Gloria Honeywood .“People involved include primary school children and volunteers of all ages.”

The Anglia in Bloom campaign was launched in April with the planting of trees in each of the six counties involved in the competition. To mark Suffolk's participation, three ash trees were planted in Corton Woods.

Brian Thornton, vice-chairman of the Anglia in Bloom judges, who has been to look at the new trees, said how important groups such as the Corton Woods Project Group were in conserving and protecting trees against the threat of pests and diseases, vandalism, and more recently climate change.

“We hope everyone will help make Lowestoft positively bloom for the judges on Wednesday,” Mrs Honeywood said.
