THIS is the charred remains of a vital lifeline for a Kirkley resident.

For a grandmother's world was turned upside when callous vandals torched her only means of transport.

And now following the arson attack on her red Fiat Punto, the car owner has been left housebound and unable to visit ill relatives.

The police and fire service were called to the Clifton Road area of Kirkley to the car that had been completely destroyed by fire.

Police investigations have been carried out into the incident which is being treated as arson.

“We are particularly keen to hear from locals as a resident heard a car horn sound at the time of the fire,” police press officer Anne-Marie Breach said.

“Enquiries are ongoing, but if anyone heard the car horn contact Lowestoft police on 01986 835300.”

This week the car owner, whose name is being kept anonymous by The Journal for fear of any reprisals, hit out at the “morons” who set fire to her vehicle at 4.45am on Monday, July 28.

“I need this car to enable me to go out,” she said. “Without it I am housebound - only being able to walk a few steps before I am in severe pain. What reason do they have for doing this? They have no respect it seems for other people's property and they didn't notice the blue badge on the front window, the aides inside the car or a brand new support cushion which helps ease the pain in my back,” she pondered.

Now she has been forced to temporarily hire a mobility scooter to get around town - but at an expense she can ill afford.

“I can only afford to use it for two weeks and after this I will be stuck at home,” she told The Journal.

Reliant now on friends to help transport her around, she fears the worst.

“Until my insurance pays out I am unable to get another car, so I would like to say thank you to the morons who thought it would be fun to set fire to a car - congratulations you have left me housebound!” she said.
