Fun for all the family is in store as a "magical, musical Christmas play" is staged this festive season.

The cast and crew for this year’s Christmas production at the popular Seagull Theatre in Pakefield, Lowestoft, are putting the final touches to this year’s festive offering: The Nutcracker.

Offering a festive mix of dancing, singing and magic based on the traditional story of Clara and the Sugar plum fairy having adventures in Toyland, it has been specially created for the theatre.

The Seagull, which was recently invited to join the prestigious National Portfolio by the Arts Council of England, has a long record of launching successful but affordable Christmas productions.

With this year’s production of The Nutcracker drawn loosely on the original story by ETA Hoffman - from which the famous ballet also took its story -this famous Christmas tale has something to delight the whole family.

Karen Read, manager of the Seagull Theatre, said: "We really enjoy putting together our Christmas productions as it gives a chance for so many in our community to get involved.

"Obviously, there is a lot of talent on display on stage, but it’s also a great opportunity for our army of wonderful volunteers to get involved building the set, making the costumes and generally supporting the venture.

"At Christmas it’s a great time to count your blessings, and here at the Seagull we are blessed with a wonderful team of lovely volunteers.

"We know this is going to be a tough Christmas for many, so our prices have been kept low - a family of four can see our Nutcracker for £28 and we hope that anyone who wants to see a festive show will be able to come along.”

The production runs from December 15 until December 24, with evening performances at 7pm on the 15th, 16th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd, and matinee performances at 2pm on the 17th, 23rd and 24th.

Tickets are £10 for adults, and £8 for children with a family price (two adults and two children) of £28.
