Popular pancake races are set to return to the streets of Lowestoft this month, as organisers send out a call for teams to get involved.

After new winners were crowned in March last year with the return of Britain's most easterly pancake races that had been previously postponed amid the continuing coronavirus crisis, teams are set to battle it out again in the town centre on Tuesday, February 21.

The annual Lowestoft Vision Pancake Day races will see local businesses competing for the honour of being crowned as this year's champions.

Taking place at noon on London Road North, the popular mascot race will start proceedings as various characters race to the finish line.

Companies locally will then battle it out in heats as they flip pancakes and dash the distance ahead of a final race to identify this year's champion.

With there being time still to enter, Lowestoft Vision chairman Danny Steel said: "The Pancake Day race is an annual institution in Lowestoft's town centre events calendar, where visitors, locals, businesses and families alike can come along to cheer on the competitors and their favourite mascots.

"It's a real crowd pleaser, and we are very excited to once again be hosting the event."

Lowestoft Vision BID Manager Amie Mullen added: "Local companies have still got time to enter this year's team and mascot races.

"All you need to do is go to the Discover Lowestoft website and complete the entry form by February 13 to be in with a chance of lifting this year's trophy.

"We saw a large number of entries for last year's event, and we expect to see even more 'flippers' taking part in this year's race.

"Who will take the mantle from last year's mascot winner Gerard the Giraffe from Citrus Security Shredding, and race winners the Lowestoft Football Flippers?"
