An MP has learnt how a social enterprise is helping patients receive the best care in their own homes.

Staff at East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) welcomed Waveney MP Peter Aldous for a visit to its base at Hamilton House, Lowestoft.

He heard how ECCH is working hard to help ease pressure on beds at local acute hospitals through initiatives to provide care to people at home through both its Primary Care Home teams and its new care provider, Cavell Healthcare.

Mr Aldous met with staff from the Lowestoft Primary Care Home (PCH) team - one of four multidisciplinary teams including nurses, therapists and social care staff who support GP practices in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.

He heard about the working practices which have been maintained since COVID, and how ECCH is working with partners to identify the "right care for the right person" to ensure people are treated at home when that is most appropriate.

This approach supports unnecessary admission to the local hospital and timely discharge.

Lowestoft PCH locality lead Kirsti Williams said: "Peter had the chance to chat to various members of the PCH team including triage co-ordinators, rehab support workers, community nurses and a therapy lead.

"This was a great opportunity to highlight the work of these roles and how the teams work effectively with our health and social care partners to improve outcomes for local people."

During his visit, Mr Aldous also met with staff from Cavell Healthcare – the award-winning domiciliary care provider that ECCH bought in November last year.

He was keen to learn about what makes Cavell Healthcare different and also heard about the opportunities that are now on the horizon, including the potential to expand the services available and extend the care offering to other parts of Norfolk and Suffolk.
