A community singalong for the King was held as British blooms were showcased and cannons were fired during coronation celebrations across Lowestoft and Southwold.

With the historic crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Saturday, events to mark the coronation have been held.

A 'Community Sing for the King' showcase was held in Lowestoft on Saturday afternoon at the East Point Pavilion.

Led by Helen Hayes - who was accompanied by local ukulele strummers - the singalong included well-known melodies from around the home nations.

This was followed by music from the Pavilion Coronation Bandstand showcasing some of Lowestoft’s top up-and-coming artists - including Kitty-May, Retro Firefly and Ronan, topped off by Full House Duo.

A "very British" sea dip was also enjoyed in Lowestoft on Saturday morning for the coronation, as a handful of hardy souls braved the North Sea wearing party hats to mark the occasion.

At St Michael’s Church in Oulton there was a steady flow of people viewing the display of coronation flowers.

The exhibits also included a detailed miniature model statuette of a Tower of London Beefeater holding a tiny crown made by a parishioner.

Flowers depicting "the Best of British" were arranged by members of the Lowestoft Flower Club while others were assembled by Oulton Broad Primary School pupils and 1st Oulton Brownies and Guides.

The church bells were peeled for an hour prior to the King’s coronation.

Celebrations were planned to continue on Sunday (today) with an outdoor service - weather permitting - followed by a barbecue.

In Southwold, the town council had arranged celebrations for the coronation.

Despite the inclement weather, some hardy revellers enjoyed a picnic on Gun Hill while others danced to music from The Austin Beats and listened to lone piper Graham Macausland.

The evening concluded with the cannons being fired.

An eye-catching oversize crown around the town pump in the Market Place was also on display to celebrate the royal occasion.
