Plans to transform two empty buildings in Lowestoft have been hailed by a new face at the town's business improvement district.

Angela Grey is the new business engagement manager at Lowestoft Vision - the Business Improvement District (BID) for the town.

"I'm excited to be joining the team," she said. "I’m looking forward to supporting businesses in the town, giving them a bit of a voice, making the place look clean, green and attractive."

Her appointment comes as plans were unveiled to transform two empty properties in the town centre.

Last week, East Suffolk Council approved a bid to transform the vacant former Tesco Metro store in the town centre into 21 homes and a new retail unit.

Planners are also looking at a proposal to convert the former Beales department store on London Road North into a mixed-use development of flats and commercial units.

Ms Grey, 43, said: "They will bring more people into the town, make Lowestoft a town people want to visit.

"It’s all about improving businesses, improving business in our area."

For the last six years, Ms Grey has worked at Orbis Energy as its building and tenant manager.

"I’m known in the area. I come from working with a lot of businesses already. I already have relationships with some of the businesses in the BID," she said.

"Now I’m keen to get out there and meet other businesses in the town."

She has lived in the area for more than 20 years and said she knows the town very well.

"People are a bit doom and gloom about Lowestoft but it’s where the sun rises first, it has a lovely beach."

Lowestoft Vision was founded in 2013 after a number of businesses voted in favour of creating a BID for the town.
