A Suffolk seaside town has been named among the best in the country.

Millets included Lowestoft in its list of the top coastal towns in England.

The clothing retailer looked at water quality, sea temperature, visitor reviews and parking costs to determine the best spots.

With a water temperature of 16.7C in September and a sandy beach, Millets gave Lowestoft a rating of 6.96 out of 10.

Lowestoft is the most easterly town in the UK with a pier, a wildlife park, a theme park, museums and a theatre.

It also has a number of beaches, gardens, arcades, shops and plenty of places for parking.

The top spot on the list was taken by Tynemouth in the northeast, followed by Weymouth and Poole in the southwest.

Four beaches in Suffolk were named among the best in the UK last week - Walberswick, Southwold, Aldeburgh and Dunwich.
