Dreams became reality as a former biker in her 80s and a 104-year-old were among a group of care home residents who hit the road on a motorbike.

They revved up with local group ‘Wish List Bikers’ - a charity which fulfils dreams and provides special motorbike experiences.

The residents at Broadlands, a not-for-profit Greensleeves Care home in Oulton Broad, Lowestoft were taken for a spin aboard a fully accessible Rewaco adapted trike.

With the Wish List Bikers covering north Suffolk and south Norfolk, the charity is understood to be the only organisation of its type in the country "offering such a comprehensive service".

And the group - who were set up by former Lowestoft doctor, Keith Lightfoot, and other keen bikers in 2018 - helped to "fulfil a wish or dream and reunite ex-bikers with the joys of motorcycling" for the care home residents.

Margaret Ellis, 88, an ex-biker and Broadlands resident said: “I used to have a Lambretta many years ago, and the ride on the motorbike was wonderful.

"It was great to get on the road again."

Broadlands resident, 104 year-old Gilbert Baird, became the oldest person that the Wish List Bikers have ever taken out on the trike as he admitted afterwards that the experience was “exhilarating".

Home manager, Anne Maas, said: “It is always heartwarming to see our residents having fun and living their lives to the full.

"Age or ability doesn’t have to be a barrier to experiences like these.”

As Greensleeves Care operates with a person-centred approach to care, with a tailored and personalised activities programme within each of its 28 homes, residents are encouraged to maintain hobbies and interests they've had throughout their lives and to pursue new experiences.

The Wish List Bikers have already booked to return to Broadlands to take "even more" care home residents for a spin.
