A thriving group that successfully launched in Lowestoft two years ago is looking to the future.

True Colours of Lowestoft - the town's LGBTQ+ community group - has this week issued a call for volunteers to help the "thriving organisation" develop further.

Honnor Dawn, chairperson of the Lowestoft organisation which serves the LGBTQ+ community in the town, said that they were "very much in need of some volunteer assistance."

The supportive, safe and inclusive group is based at the Kirkley Centre on London Road South and organises a range of activities and advice for people in the town.

Since successfully launching two years ago, the growth of the group means it now needs additional volunteers as it seeks to become a formally constituted organisation and source vital new funding.

Honnor Dawn, who chairs TrueColours of Lowestoft, said: "We realised there was a really important need for the LGBTQ+ community in Lowestoft to have a support network and to be able to advocate for people in the town.

"We have grown rapidly and, as well as providing support and advice, we organise a range of activities for a community which can sometimes include marginalised and under-represented people.

"TrueColours really provides an essential focal point for the LGBTQ+ community in Lowestoft.’"

The group, which is open to those aged over 18, now needs a secretary, a treasurer and a vice chair to ensure True Colours is "better able to unlock funding streams" and increase the support it is able to provide.

True Colours meets at the Kirkley Centre between 7pm and 9pm on the first Thursday of every month.

There is no charge for those who attend, but donations are welcome.

As well as the regular meetings, TrueColours also organises group activities, guest speakers, once a month meetings for a leisurely Sunday walk and also organise trips to Pride events.

TrueColours is funded by The People's Health Trust, Community Action Suffolk and The National Lottery Fund.
